Each school site appoints an Arts Coordinator from either the staff or the school community. School Arts Coordinators are the primary liaisons to the Arts Education Master Plan Implementation Manager and the VAPA office and provide leadership for the Master Plan's implementation under the direction of principals. Arts Coordinators meet for professional development, collaborate with their school’s leadership, PTA and Arts Education Committee if one exists to design and implement arts education programming and disseminate information concerning arts education to the schools district-wide.

The Arts Department Chair serves as director of a site-based arts program and acts as a liaison between other academic departments, administration, and the larger school community. The teacher in this role manages the overall curriculum so that it aligns with the standards and soon-to-be implemented National Core Art Standards while providing effective leadership in guiding instructional strategies and assessments to ensure effective teaching and learning. At her respective department meetings the Department chair facilitates discussion about the needs of the students and current developments in arts education while concurrently teaching in the classroom. This vital role encourages ongoing communication and collaboration to promote the arts as an key element of students’ educational experience.
The Arts Department chairs meet four to five times with other VAPA arts chairs and Arts Coordinators to discuss the district-wide implementation of the VAPA curriculum.
